Boston

I forgot how much I love Boston!  It is such a great city. We spent Friday night walking around near our hotel - which is right near Fenway park. There are many pubs to choose from down here. But we saw a sign that said BBQ-we are huge fans of BBQ so we decided to check it out.
It was a hopping place!  We sat down at a table with a tin pail filled with napkins and utensils. All drinks are served in various sized mason jars. I had a beerita- part beer part margarita. Perfect drink for a summer night. Appetizers were biscuits with honey butter and hush puppies.
For dinner I had a pulled pork sandwich with sides of carrot and raisin salad and Mac and cheese. Delicious!!! I really enjoyed the carrot and raisin salad. I have been trying to find a recipe that looks similar but no luck yet.
We were so stuffed!  We walked back to the hotel seeing the sights and listening to the Friday night concert-a little preview. We thought we would go to the movies, but it was getting late.

Saturday morning we hopped on the T subway and headed to Quincy Market. I just love how charming this part of the city is. Cobblestone, lots of unique buildings. It was just as I remembered it. The one thing I have vivid memories of is the street performers, and the day didn't disappoint in that area. We saw jugglers, drummers, singers, guitarist, dancers, live statues....all terrific!  We had skipped breakfast due to such a big dinner the night before. For lunch we ate at an outside table at the Irish Pub Ned Devines.

The concert at Fenway was amazing!  One of the best I have ever been to. All of my favorite songs, great seats. A perfect birthday weekend celebration.

Pirates

We had a fantastic day at the Pirate Festival in NY today!  There were pirates everywhere and lots to see and do. Ring toss on the octopus, working with a blacksmith, pirate bowling, training to be a pirate, a mermaid, and pirate treasure. Even though it was incredibly hot, we enjoyed our day!

Invitations

Invitations - a rarity for this family.  Birthday parties, BBQs, dinner, play dates, outings......they just don't come our way.  Is it because we were invited places and I said no too many times? Is it because pets are involved and CJ is afraid?  Is it because we are no fun??? Is it because we live too far away and traffic is always bad?  Is it because of CJ?  In the past, it didn't really bother me. But this is the first summer CJ wants to be on the go...for which I am forever grateful.  No more begging and pleading (and bribing) him to go somewhere - he actually wants to go :)  But where do we go????  Do we just invite ourselves...hmmm.

Plan B

We were supposed to go to Quassy Amusement Park yesterday. CJ worked hard Sunday to prepare himself! *so proud of him for taking this on! He planned the rides he wanted to ride, watched videos of some of the rides and planned how the day was going to go. But we got up yesterday morning and it was a 70% chance of rain. So I had to quickly come up with a Plan B before "this weather is ruining my summer vacation!" started up again. I remembered hearing about an Air museum somewhere in CT, and of course any kind of vehicle museum lights up CJs eyes. What I thought was going to be a small museum turned out to be an all day visit- the New England Air Museum is huge!!  So much to look at and learn. CJ had a great time. He asked to go back again this summer. Due to the   heavy rain we couldn't look at all the planes outside. (I also just saw on the news that a small tornado touched down not far from where we were. Which explains the tree we saw down in the road.). It was a fun day for CJ and a check off his summer bucket list.
